Privacy Policy
Thank you for using Whiteboard-Online. We take your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you use our online whiteboard platform at whiteboard-online.org.
1. General
Whiteboard-Online is designed to let users create and collaborate on virtual whiteboards in real-time. Registration is not required for main features. You can use most of the platform anonymously.
2. Data Collected
Cookies & Local Storage: We use cookies and your browser’s local storage to store your board preferences, recently visited boards, and session data (such as admin sessions or owner tokens). No advertising or tracking cookies are used.
Usage Statistics: To understand how the platform is used, we count visits and actions as daily and hourly totals only (for example: number of visitors, board visits, which tools were used, browser, operating system, browser language and country). The country is looked up from your IP address on our own server using a local database (IP Geolocation by DB-IP); no external service is contacted. To count different visitors, your IP address and browser are combined into an anonymous key with a random value that changes every day; the keys are deleted after two days at the latest, and only the totals are kept. We do not store IP addresses for statistics, and we do not use tracking cookies or third-party analytics services (such as Google Analytics). Your browser remembers the day of your last visit (local storage), so that we can count new and returning visitors.
Board Content: Your whiteboard drawings and writings are stored on our servers (and, if you are the creator, associated with a secure token in your browser). Boards can be password protected and accessed via a unique link. Board content is not used for analytics or marketing.
Name on Boards: On a board you can choose a display name (stored only in your browser). It is shown to the other people on the same board and next to your chat messages. You do not have to use your real name.
Chat: Messages written in a board’s chat are stored on our servers together with the board, including the display name and the time. Everyone who can open the board can read them. We keep at most the 1,000 most recent messages per board; older ones are deleted automatically, and the whole chat is deleted together with the board. The public board has no chat.
Contact Form: If you use the contact form, we collect your given information (name, email, message) solely for responding to your inquiry. Spam protection is implemented on client and server sides.
Server Logs: Server logs may include IP addresses, times, and technical request details for maintenance and security purposes. Logs are kept securely; the logs of our application are deleted after 30 days.
Support link (Ko-fi): Our “Support this project” links are plain links to our page on Ko-fi (ko-fi.com). Nothing from Ko-fi is loaded on our website. Only when you click such a link do you leave our site; Ko-fi’s own privacy policy applies there, and payments are processed by Ko-fi and its payment providers (e.g. PayPal or Stripe). We do not receive your payment details.

4. Cookies
We use only cookies and browser storage essential to operate the platform: for board management, owner/admin areas, your settings and storing your board history on your device. No tracking, advertising or third-party cookies. Nothing is loaded from third-party servers.
5. Your Rights
You have the right to request information about, correction of, or deletion of your stored personal data where applicable. For requests, please use the contact form.
6. Data Deletion and Retention
Boards and chat: Boards that have not been used for 90 days are deleted automatically, together with their chat. The board owner or we can also delete a board earlier.
Statistics: Anonymous visitor keys are deleted after two days at the latest; only totals are kept.
Application logs: deleted after 30 days.
Contact messages: deleted once they are no longer needed to answer your inquiry.
Other data is kept only as long as required for active use or legal obligations.
7. Security
We use appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data from unauthorized access or disclosure.
8. Children’s Privacy
This platform is suitable for all ages. Children under 16 should use the platform only with parental consent if submitting personal information.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy to reflect changes to our services or legal requirements. Major changes will be announced on the website.
